For the first time in the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre's history, the opening weekend performances of the opera Roméo et Juliette, the timeless and passionate tale of two ill-fated lovers will stream live on the Alltech Arts Network, powered by iHigh.com, from the Lexington Opera House. The October 22 and 23 performances will stream live in real time via computers, Blackberry and Android mobile devices as well as iPads and the iPhone.

iHigh, Alltech and UK Opera Theatre together with the help of iHigh founder, Jim Host, Alltech's Dr. Pearse Lyons and UK Opera Theatre Director Dr. Everett McCorvey, have developed an arts network called the Alltech Arts Network. iHigh.com, the Global Youth Network, is designed to provide free feature-rich Web services to schools, students and youth organizations, and enables live streaming of events, mobile broadcasting, unlimited photo uploads and more.

The new Alltech Arts Network will stream this operatic performance live and in the coming months stream more UK School of Music and College of Fine Arts events. Soon, colleges, high schools and arts organizations around the country will be able to place their performances and arts events on the Alltech Arts Network both as live streams and as archival files.

"For the arts world, this has the potential to change the way performers gather content for their portfolio which they share with agents and potential employers. It gives the public access to live performances of major arts events. It will be similar to watching a game at Rupp Arena while it's happening! The technology that Jim Host and his team have developed is spectacular," said Dr. Everett McCorvey, director of the University of Kentucky's Opera Theatre Department.

Weekend performances of Roméo et Juliette are scheduled for Saturday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. Viewers may catch the live performances at www.ihigh.com/ukoperatheater. The opera performances continue the following weekend on Friday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. Only the first weekend will be streamed live. All performances are at the Lexington Opera House in Downtown Lexington. For tickets call the Lexington Center Box Office at (859) 233-3535 or on the web at www.ticketmaster.com.
